Let’s look back to 2008, even though we are steadily in 2009 already. Many interesting titles came out like Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, GTA IV, Little big planet etc. I got to play most of the interesting titles but many didn’t really impress me.
Far Cry 2 is one of those which didn’t catch my attenttion too much. The graphics were great I admit that, but the story is the basic excuse of roaming around and killing people. At first it seemed ok with its big area and good graphics but after a while when I had driven thru 10-20 road stops and been killed by their guards couple of time I stopped to think: “Why do everybody attack me all the time?” You haven’t done anything to them and still they drive after you with their guns blazing. Oh and repairing the cars… If the only thing you have to do is just to press one button and the guy tightens one bolt with his wrench to fix the whole car, you could have just left the repairing out from the game. Overally it’s not that great game after all.
Then there was Fallout 3. That game had something in it. The atmosphere was amazing. Graphics looked great and the sounds were so good. The songs you hear from the radio fit the games theme so well. The game gave you a strong feeling about being there yourself. Bethesda did an excellent work building the towns and villages. Everything looks like how I would have imagined the world being after nuclear bombing. And the amount of weapons is massive. I could go on forever about the skills system being so good and everything but that would just make this post about two pages long. Even though I had my thoughts about Bethesda, the game turned out to be great.
Then lets move in to PS3 and to Little Big Planet. That catched my eye instantly when I saw the first ad. And when my friend bought it I was there playing it before I even knew it. Ofcourse we were playing with couple of friends so I haven’t really tried the single-player at all. First lets talk about the graphics. The graphics are very good and fit the game perfectly. Everything looks so smooth and cool. All the different outfits and apparels look good and there is a huge load of them so you can make your character look very unique. First we played some normal campaign levels and I must say that they were good. The game looks like it was made for kids, but in the later levels you have to really pay attenttion to your surroundings. Something is always moving in the screen and you have to be careful of not getting squashed, crushed, burned or something like that. Then there is a huge load of content made by other players. The editor can do almost anything. There is racing tracks where you have cars to drive with, there is a space journey map where you get to fly a rocket and many many more. If I would have to choose the best game of the year, I would choose this.
See you next time peeps:P
