The thing I most came to like about Windows 7 and Vista

July 18th, 2009

Is actually an shell extension, that lets you find target folder of shortcuts faster. The normal way in Xp you have to first click “Properties” and then “Find Target”. If you are like me, and have to use that multiple times a day, an shell extension like this comes really in handy.

Open Target

Open Target

What it does, is it places a link to the menu that comes up when you right-click a shortcut. You can see a picture of it working on the right.

You can download the program from freewaregenius.com(click here to download).

The Piratebay becomes a paysite

July 17th, 2009

The worst fear of the users of The Piratebay is going to come true. TPB will become a paysite. The ex-boss of Grokster, Wayne Rosso, who is creating the new TPB-site, confirmed at CNET NEWS that if you wan’t to download from TPB, you must pay a monthly fee. The amount of the fee hasn’t been published, but Rosso said that the fee becomes smaller if you let Global Gaming Factory X Ab use your computer resources. The more you let them use your resources, the smaller the fee is.

Global Gaming Factory X Ab will rent your resources to anyone with big enough wallet, and therefore TPB will be a competitor to Akamai and Amazon which are offering similiar services.

Rosso claims that if internet operators use their services, they will save up to 80% of the resources needed and therefore they will be saving a lot of money.

There might be a possibility that if you let TPB use enough of your resources, you might be able to download for free, but I highly doubt it. And in my honest opinion it wouldn’t even be worth it. There are enough free torrent-sites in the internet to replace TPB.

Bye bye Windows 7, welcome back Xp

July 14th, 2009

I finally came to the conclusion that Windows 7 had some compability issues with my hardware, and that games didn’t run as smooth as they should have been running. Mostly noticed this while trying to play Guitar Hero III where the fps was horrible. The game was unplayble. It was 2am and I really got pissed of then and without hesitating I started looking for that damned Windows Xp install disk. The installation of Windows Xp went smoothly and I guess you don’t need any information from that. So yeah, no more Windows 7 news from me for a while.

Oh and yeah, I got Guitar Hero for my pc. I actually bought the Playstation 3 version, because it was so cheap. The Playstation 3 version of the Guitar is a black Les Paul, and best of all, it’s wireless! I just had to plug in the wireless receiver to my computer and Windows automatically installed it’s drivers and it instantly worked. Only thing I haven’t gotten working is the motion sensor, but I hope there is a way to get that working too.

Windows 7 random freeze problem and the fix

July 10th, 2009

So I have been having a little problem with random freezes occuring randomly while using my computer. When my computer got frozen, I couldn’t move the mouse or interact with it by any means. Just like staring at an image of my desktop.

Fortunately the fix to my problem was rather easy. Annoying to find out yes, but easy. Don’t know what exactly causes it, but apparently on some desktop computers not having the “Full performance”-option selected from power management causes this. Atleast when I turned it from normal to full, the freezes went away. Strange thing indeed, which I hope gets fixed from the final release.

New theme for the blog

July 2nd, 2009

So I got a new theme for the blog. Kind of grew tired to the old one, and wanted a more simplish one. This one only has one left panel to add my widgets in, and that is more than enough. My twitter-feed widget doesn’t work right with this one though, but I’ll try to get a replacement for that as soon as possible. That is the only problem I find in this theme though, so I’ll be keeping this one for now atleast.

Continuing about The Piratebay

July 2nd, 2009

There has been a lot of discussion going on about the new CEO of Piratebay and the CEO of Global Gaming Factory X Ab, Hans Pandeya. First one to bring him bad publicity was online magazine called Realtid(Google translated from sweden to english). They managed to get a short interview from and unnamed person who has earlier been working with Mr. Pandeya. According to him, Mr. Pandeay will do anything he can to achieve his goals and believes things will end badly for TPB if he gets his will thru.

On the other news concerning TPB is, that they will be releasing a function that will allow you to delete your account from their site. The fact that TPB is being sold, has gotten many of their users paranoid for their user informations and have emailed the staff of TPB, so that their accounts would be deleted. The staff of TPB are assuring that there is no need for concern though, since they are not collecting information of the downloads/uploads of the users, so there wouldn’t be any info to transfer to the new owner. Staff of TPB are disappointed in the feedback they are getting anyways, since most of the people are not happy with the change of the owner. The staff assures that this is the only way to keep TPB alive though.

This is indeed going on to a interesting direction, and because I am a curious person, I will very muchly keep watching the situation. I would delete my account from their site as soon as it is possible by the way. Atleast I will! See you next time!
