League of Legends NDA loosened

September 18th, 2009

Riot games loosened the NDA of League of Legends and now beta-testers are allowed to discuss about the game openly. Posting screenshots and videos is forbidden though.

So lets talk about the game then, shall we?

Heroes

I haven’t had a chance to try too much heroes in the game and I have mostly been playing with the beginner friendly heroes, Master Yi, Annie and Ryze. I have been playing against various heroes though and I must say that atleast at the moment the game is not completely balanced. Some heroes just own, while others do not own so much. Good example would be Ryze, who can use his ultimate to own two heroes of his same level and then normal skills to take down a third. But you have to remember the fact that the game is in closed beta and balancing is an issue that is worked on all the time.

Items

Items in this game are not too interesting. Just basic attack speed, damage and shizzle. There are some new stuff though, like ability points, which increase damage of your abilities. The shopping for items in this game is made really easy for new players though, since the shop recommends to you what items you should buy. You can also easily buy items that require multiple items to complete and see the amount of money you still need to build it.

Maps

Not too much to say about the maps. Two maps currently, both have exactly the same layout, but different themes. Layout doesn’t differ from Warcraft III dota, except there is no secret shop or Roshan.

Creeps and towers

First of all, there is no denying in this game. You can’t deny creeps nor turrets at all. Creeps do a nice amount of damage, and they won’t always target other creeps prior to you. This can and will become quite annoying. I certainly hope they will fix it. Neutral creeps are in the game too and some of them are really strong with healt points of 4000 or so.

Towers in this game always prior creeps before players. If there is even one creep in the range of the turret, the turret will start shooting it even if it wasn’t doing any damage to the turret and the player is bashing the hell out of the turret. The turrents in the beginning of the lane are more easier to destroy than the ones in the base.

Then there are the inhibitors. There are three inhibitors in each teams base, one for each lane. If enemy team destroys one of your inhibitors, they will have a super creep in every creep wave coming from that lane untill the inhibitor has restored itself. Inhibitors respawn in couple of minutes after destroyed, so if enemy team manages to destroy one then it would be wise to defend your base for a while after that. If enemy team manages to destroy all three of your inhibitors, the game will probably end in your loss rather soon.

Can’t think of what more to write right now, so I will probably write more later. You can also ask me questions and I will answer them as much as I can.

New theme. Again.

September 15th, 2009

I started to dislike the very dark theme of the blog, so I decided that I wanted it to have more light colors.

This theme, Greenpark 2, hit my eye because of the rather good looking style and because it has the same structure than the dark theme I used. I think I will be using this theme for a while, unless someone really dislikes it.

My thoughts about current WoW raiding

September 10th, 2009

I am a semi-hardcore World of Warcraft player. I spend time with my friends during daytime. I raid 4 days a week, 16 hours a week. Currently I am mostly getting bored at the raiding. Why? Because the new content has been divided in to two categories: super easy and super hard.

Trial of the Crusader

Trial of the Crusader

In the picture on the right you can see our guild steamrolling through the newest content in game. Trial of the Crusader. In the picture we have been raiding for 50 minutes and we have already reached the last boss in the raid. About 10 minutes after the picture was taken, we had already distributed the loot and moved elsewhere. This was however only the normal mode of the 25-man raid.

Blizzard decided to make two versions of each raids. Normal and Heroic. The normal mode is ridiculously easy and just free gear without almost any kind of effort. But when you try to move to the heroic mode, thinking that it’s probably not much harder than the normal mode, but boy… You are wrong there.

You are limited to 50 tries per week. Every time you have to restart the boss, you lose one try. After all 50 tries have been used, you have to come back next week. The less tries you use, the better the loot is.

When the first boss walks in and if your healers are not prepared to heal their asses off, you will wipe instantly. The boss hits like a truck. Our guild can easily oneshot the 25-man normal, but we can’t even down the first of the Northern Beasts in heroic.

Same stuff goes on in Ulduar. Normal modes are rather easy, some of the hard-modes are god damn hard. I have to say though, Blizzard managed to make couple of good hard-mode bosses, like Freya. In Freya you can choose the difficulty by selecting if you want to keep up one, two or three of her helpers. Same mechanic is used on Flame Leviathan and Yogg-Saron.

I keep hearing about how Vanilla and TBC raiding were so much better than the current raiding. I myself can’t give any comment about that, since I wasn’t playing then. Blizzard is planning on revamp some of the old content, starting with lvl 60 raid, Onyxia’s lair. I am eagerly waiting to see that happen.

League of Legends closed beta

September 9th, 2009

So yeah, just thought I would let you know I got in to League of Legends closed beta by a friend inviting me. All my invites have been reserved already though, so no point in even asking for them.

Can’t post any material about it yet now though. Don’t worry though, I will be collecting screenshots that I will post as soon as Riot lifts the restriction that prevents the beta testers to publish material about the game.

Fixed an serious issue on the blog

September 6th, 2009

There was an issue on the blog that gave you 404 message whenever you tried to open any particular post. That issue is fixed now though.

Very interesting serie of games

September 4th, 2009

Have you ever heard of Oddworld games? Probably about the newest one, Stranger’s wrath, but what about the three games that came before it? Abe’s Odyssee, Abe’s Exoddus and Munch Odyssee. This serie of games are one of the most interesting games I have every played.

Abe's Odyssee

Abe's Odyssee

The two first games tell the story of a mudokon slave, Abe, who works in a place called Rupture Farms, that produces food. When he discovers that the company is going downhill, and to stop this, the leaders of the company are planning to make a new kind of food from Abe and the other mudokons. After finding that out, Abe begins a rather humorous run-away where he tries to save all the mudokons he can. This game is not so hard if you don’t plan on saving all of the 99 mudokons in game and getting the good ending, but if you want a true challenge, this game can offer it. The most interesting thing in this game is the possibility to control your enemies, by chanting and posessing them. This is used very much in the game since Abe has no other attacks if not including the ocassional bombs he can get.

Then there is the sequel. The sequel is longer, harder and funnier than the first game. This game has 300 mudokons to save, and to get the good ending, you have to save them all. This game starts right where Odyssee ended. Abe is being cheered at a stage, by the mudokons he saved but he accidentally falls down and hits his head. While unconsious, the spirits of dead mudokons speak to him and tell him about Soulstorm Brewery, which is using mudokon bones to make their new, highly addictive brew. Abe begins a journey with eight of his fellow mudokons to stop this brewery, and to save as much mudokons as they can. This game features new kind of mudokons to save, including blind ones, depressed ones, angry ones and sick ones. Each of these types need to be handled differently and this makes the game very hard and random at some points. When attempting to save all 300 mudokons this game can become highly annoying in some points due to the randomness. In this games the developers made it possible to control more enemies and even your own farts in certain point. Running around as a little animal called Paramite was rather fun.

Abe's Exoddus

Abe's Exoddus

The cutscenes and story are very great in this game though. Humour is a little black, but still very funny. I remember when playing these as a young kid, the games were scary, but in a fun way. Too bad I don’t have the games anymore, but I just found a Let’s play-videos for them and had great time watching them.

These games can be found for PS1 and PC, so I suggest you check them out. One of the most awesome games of all time in my opinion.

Valve goes against idlers

September 4th, 2009

Using Drunken F00ls Steamstats idler program to idle for TF2 weapons and hats is now over. Valve has given everyone who idled a warning and removed everything they got by idling. Some people have reported weapons gained with achievements gone missing too. I am in the group of people who received this warning, and I feel rather annoyed by it. Why go against the idlers with this caliber without even giving an official statement against idling first? Nobody knows, but I surely would like to.

Cheater's Lament

Cheater's Lament

There was a little treat for people who didn’t use the idler though. They received a Cheater’s Lament. Level 1 aura of incorruptibility. This rather nice looking halo has it’s flaws too though. I suggest not using this while playing with spy, because the your head will glow even if you are cloaked. Someone started a Healers Against Halos-movement to gather up players that would refuse to heal anyone wearing a halo, until Valve apologizes to people who used the idler-program.

A good thing happened for both idlers and non-idlers too. Valve highly raised the chance of getting a hat. Hopefully I will finally get my first hat at some point soon.

After a long break, everything is back up again!

September 1st, 2009

The site was down for a rather longish time, because transferring my domain took two weeks for some reason.

Everything is now back up and running though, so sorry about the long downtime.
